Copaíba

PRESENTATION

Like Andiroba oil, Copaíba is an Amazonian oil most commonly used by local populations.

The particularity of this oil is that it comes straight from the trunk of the tree. Not all Copaíba trees offer this oil, only those that have survived a termite attack. Imagine a tree in the forest trying to defend itself against numerous microbes, fungi, viruses and bacteria.

Thanks to its in-depth knowledge, Dumato proposes different types of Copaíba: Copaifera officinalis, a Copaifera guianensis (Guianas), Copaifera multijuga Hayne e a Copaifera langsdorffii.

Copaíba oil is known worldwide for its skin protection, moisturising and recovery properties.
COMPONENTS

Copaiba oil contains more than 125 different components. Among them are more than 75 sesquiterpenes and around 30 diterpenes.

The main sesquiterpenes found in copaiba oil-resin are b-caryophyllene, which has proven to be anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antifungal and have anti-oedema properties, b-bisabolene with properties described as anti-inflammatory and analgesic, as well as a-humulene, a- and b-selinene, a-bisabolol, b-elemene, g-cadinene, a-cadinol.

The resinous part of the oil-resin is made up of the following diterpenes: hardicic acid, colavenol, copaiferic or copaiferous acid, copaiferolic acid, calavenic acid, patagonic acid, copalic acid among others. Copalic acid has emollient, bactericidal and anti-inflammatory properties in the manufacture of creams, soaps, shampoos and hair conditioners.

Various studies have demonstrated its healing action, antiseptic potential, antiviral action and haemostatic action, to name a few.
