Cupuaçu butter
PRESENTATION
Cupuaçu butter is creamy and smooth. It helps improve skin elasticity, slows down ageing and improves the skin's ability to moisturise (absorb water), providing long-lasting effects for dry and damaged skin. Cupuaçu butter is added to many natural skin benefit formulas, protecting against the harmful effects of UV-A and UV-B rays. This broad-spectrum protection allows damaged skin to recover better, restoring its elasticity and softness. It can also serve as a natural sunscreen, completely free of preservatives. Cupuaçu butter is also soothing for skin irritations such as eczema and dermatitis, as well as reducing the appearance of wrinkles.
The butter is made from cupuaçu seeds. Cupuaçu trees are medium-sized trees that reach a height of 12 to 20 metres and are found naturally in the Amazon rainforest. They belong to the Theobroma family, which is the same as the cocoa (chocolate) family. In order to grow in good conditions, they need the specific climate of tropical forests, i.e. high temperatures and humidity, as well as large amounts of rain throughout the year.
Cupuaçu butter is rich in antioxidants, such as vitamin E and flavonoids, which help protect the skin from damage caused by free radicals, which can cause premature skin ageing.
Cupuacu is a primary source of food in the forest for indigenous tribes and various species of animals, such as birds and mammals, which also help disperse the seeds throughout the Amazon rainforest. The fruit ripens in the rainy months from January to April.
Cupuaçu seeds contain the highest amounts of oleic and stearic fatty acids. Being from the same family as cocoa, it also has a high flavonoid content.
